United Church Women

Trustees from Middleton
receiving gift of portable pulpit from our UCW
All ladies of the Congregation
are members of the UCW and are welcome at meetings held the first
Monday of each month at the boardroom of Middleton United Church.
Two former units - South and Onward - recently united to form
one larger unit and meet as the structured part of UCW.
Our
President for 2008 is Avis
Fox.
Activities include: Mission
boxes, which in the past went to Brunswick St. United Church in
Halifax in the spring and fall; this year the spring box is going to
the Colchester Sheltered Workshop; Christmas gifts for the residents
of Braeside Home for Special Care; and teddy bears for the RCMP to
give to children in distress. The UCW is also an active supporter of
the local Food Bank. A Reception Committee organizes lunches
for special church services and also receptions for funeral services
for an honorarium of $75 per event.
A community Friendship Convenor
sends get well cards, sympathy cards and “Over-80” birthday cards on
behalf of Middleton United
Church. Used postage stamps are collected and sent to the
Canadian Bible Society (stamps are welcome from everyone and should
be cut from the envelope with the postage stamp included). The
General UCW also organizes the Rock-a-Thon to raise money for the
general fund of Middleton United Church.
Our members also work fancy work through out
the year to sell at sale tables at the Annual
Church Yard Sale and a table at the Festival of Trees. If anyone
wants worked pillow cases at other times, they are available by
calling Bernice Fraser at 384-3051.
